Trade Minister Omar Behi kicked off work to build a free zone in Ben Guerdane on the Libyan border. The goal is to fight against smuggling and boost trade. By targeting the European market.
“This free zone of commercial and logistical activities aims to boost trade, logistical activities and infrastructure in the region,” says Omar Behi at Le Figaro. He hopes to create 2,000 direct jobs in this underdeveloped region.
The area of 150 hectares will be devoted, 70%, to imports-exports. They will be boosted by the ongoing extension of the Tunis-Ben Guerdane highway of 580 kilometers and the development of the port of Zarzis (45 kilometers).
