Tunisia: Eni to cease hydrocarbon activities (ministry)

The Italian giant Eni, the main foreign oil operator in Tunisia, will cease its hydrocarbon activities in the country, notably because of recurrent social unrest, the Tunisian Energy Ministry said, at a time when a storage site is blocked.

Eni, which has been present in Tunisia since the 1960s, will continue its activities in the renewable energy sector, including solar power plants, but will stop operating the nine oil concessions it used to operate in partnership with the state, the ministry told AFP.

The date for the cessation of hydrocarbon activities has not been set, the ministry added.
