Saison Africa 2020 “An invitation to look and understand the world from an African point of view”
After having been postponed several times, the Saison Africa 2020 should finally start in December, provided that the lockdown is over in France, as planned. This “outstanding event” highlights the African continent, thanks to artists, intellectuals, entrepreneurs, and civil society, which takes back its identity and invites the French public (re)discovering it.

Reunited in the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris, in a small committee because of the lockdown, the organizers and partners of the Saison Africa 2020 announced the beginning of the festivities. After having been postponed several times, the Saison Africa 2020 should finally start in December, provided that the lockdown is over in France, as planned, and will last until July 2021. More than 200 events are programmed and go beyond the cultural sector as N’Gone Fall, chief commissioner of the event, explains: “I never thought about the Saison Africa 2020 as a cultural event. It is an invitation to look and understand the world from an African perspective through its artists, intellectuals, women, youth, and its civil society before everything else.”
An “outstanding event”
This “outstanding event” highlights the continent through a rich and diverse program, with photos exhibition, musical scene, entrepreneurial project, and one common thread, the African youth. “Africa lives an extraordinary creative abundance that we can’t understand here. And at the heart of this proliferation, there is the youth which is determined to recall its identity through creative industry”, Mohamed Zoghlami, animation and video games sector expert for this edition, said.
Women will be more present during this edition with a “women focus” presented by 22 projects in arts, sciences, and entrepreneurship.
The Saison Africa 2020 will also be collaborative and interactive and will deploy in 15 headquarters, thought of as real Pan-African cultural centers. “An African team has set up every headquarter in partnership with the French hosting structure, which creates a program for several weeks, organizers explain. Headquarters are conceived in the spirit of a small temporary Pan-African cultural center hosting numerous multidisciplinary projects: exhibitions, shows, music, movie projections, panels, master-classes, workshops, cooking classes…”
Meeting, exchanges, experimentations, and information’ areas will be proposed to multiply meetings opportunities between African stakeholders and the french public around the significant challenges of the 21st century. The French Institute sets up Saison Africa 2020 with the support of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation. The French agency for development is also a partner of Saison Africa 2020, as well as local collectivities, the sponsoring committee, and media.
