Rwanda UN evacuates 79 vulnerable refugees from Libya
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported on November 20 that it had evacuated 79 vulnerable refugees from Libya to Rwanda. “The UNHCR, the United Nations refugee agency, evacuated a group of 79 vulnerable asylum seekers out of Libya last night (November 19) to [bring them to] safety in Rwanda,” the spokesperson said. UNHCR word, Babar Baloch. “These vital life-saving flights between Libya and Rwanda had been on hold for nearly a year due to global closures and travel restrictions linked to COVID-19,” the spokesperson added. The evacuated refugees include men, women and children from Eritrea, Sudan and Somalia, Baloch said, adding that most of them were living in Libya’s capital Tripoli, and many had been placed in detention.
