Uganda Bobi Wine gives up

Opposition leader Bobi Wine announced on Monday that he was withdrawing his appeal to the Ugandan Supreme Court to challenge last month’s presidential election results, accusing the institution of lacking impartiality.

President Yoweri Museveni, 76, won the poll for the sixth time in a row on 14 January with 58% of the vote against Wine, a 39-year-old former singer, who won 35% of the vote and denounced a “masquerade”.

Mr Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, had filed an appeal with the Supreme Court on 1 February, claiming to have plenty of evidence of irregularities, such as intimidation of voters, kidnappings within his party, and massive fraud.
