More than 200 scientists, academics, politicians and lawyers signed a petition on Thursday in which they condemn the normalization of diplomatic relations between their country, Morocco, and the Hebrew state, reported Turkish news agency Anadolu. According to the signatories, “scholars of the Muslim religion have concluded that any form of normalization with the Zionist entity is prohibited by religious law”, and that any such step “thus constitutes a crime”. The latter also ensure that “the Palestinian cause remains at the center of the concerns” of Moroccans. US President Donald Trump announced on December 10 that Rabat has agreed to resume diplomatic relations with Jerusalem. He also said that in return, the United States would recognize Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.
