Morocco PSA inaugurates its factory and targets the African market

On June 20, PSA inaugurated its new Moroccan factory in the presence of King Mohammed VI. The Peugeot 208 will be the model produced in this new plant in Kenitra with an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles, 200,000 in 2021. In 2012, Renault inaugurated the Tangiers plant, which produced more than 300,000 vehicles last year, 94% of which was exported. Located in a free zone near the brand new port of Tangier Med, it is surrounded by many equipment manufacturers. With Renault as the spearhead, the automotive sector has become the largest export item in Morocco with nearly 6 billion euros in 2018. The automotive sector created 116,000 jobs between 2014 and 2018. According to Moulay Hafid Elalamy, the PSA ecosystem has already created 19,000 direct jobs. The king signed in June 2015 the agreement entitled to favorable tax and customs conditions for PSA who wanted to launch a "commercial offensive" in Africa.
