Egypt: 2 journalists missing, reappear during their trial

In Egypt, two journalists, who similarly disappeared, reappeared several days later when they were brought to court and remanded in custody. They are freelance photographer Hamdy Al-Zaeem and journalist Ahmed Khalifa, who disappeared on January 4 and 6, 2021, respectively.

The first was arrested at his home on January 4, then disappeared for 12 days, until he was brought before a state security court in Cairo and officially detained for “spreading false news” and “Membership of a terrorist group”. As for the second, he had disappeared after responding to orders to report to the internal security office of the governorate of Faiyum (southwest of Cairo), according to Masr360, a news site for which he works.
