Ivory Coast US funds biomass plant (USTDA)
The US Agency for Trade and Development (USTDA) has just awarded a grant for a biomass plant project in Côte d’Ivoire. It will produce electricity from cocoa pods. At least five development projects have just received grants from the US Agency for Trade and Development (USTDA). Among these is the construction of a biomass plant. The facility will work with the cocoa pods from which the cocoa beans used to make chocolate are extracted. The Ivorian government plans to build the plant in the southern community of Divo. In Côte d’Ivoire, Divo is considered the stronghold of cocoa. And the biomass plant that will be built on site will not lack raw material, since Côte d’Ivoire is the first cocoa producing country. In 2017, this West African country produced 2.01 million tonnes of cocoa on world production estimated by the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) at 4.7 million tonnes.
