Climate: UN member states adopt landmark framework that recognises the ‘value’ of nature

United Nations member states on Wednesday adopted a new statistical framework that takes into account the contributions of nature in measuring economic prosperity and human well-being.
“This is a historic step towards transforming the way we view and value nature,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres. “We will no longer allow environmental destruction and degradation to go unchecked as economic progress.

The new economic and environmental statistical framework was adopted by the nations meeting in the United Nations Statistical Commission, the Organization’s highest decision-making body on international statistical standards.
