South Africa: New Eskom power cuts
From Thursday 14 to Sunday 17 January, Eskom announced and put in load shedding Stage 2. A cut in the production of electricity after the tripping of two Kusile units, due to the failure of the main coal supply belts.
Currently, Eskom has 5,358 MW in scheduled maintenance, while an additional 14,748 MW of capacity is unavailable, due to unplanned maintenance, outages and downtime. Therefore, officials urge the public to reduce their electricity consumption to minimize load shedding.
