Telecoms : Airtel Sierra Leone becomes Orange Sierra Leone

The telecommunications operator, Orange,  is expanding its network in sub-Saharan Africa, where the brand is present in 16 countries and has more than 50 million customers, with the launch of its brand in Sierra Leone on October 18th . From this date, Airtel Sierra Leone has become Orange Sierra Leone. The acquisition of the mobile operator Airtel Sierra Leone was concluded in July 2016, with its Senegalese partner Sonatel, enabling the Group to strengthen its positions in West Africa.

Bruno Mettling, Deputy Managing Director of Orange Group and Chairman and CEO of Orange MEA (Africa and Middle East), said: “We are very pleased to announce the arrival of the Orange brand in Sierra Leone, which strengthens our already strong presence in West Africa. The launch of the Orange brand confirms our confidence in the country’s ongoing economic recovery and our commitment to bring all the benefits of new digital services to the Sierra Leoneans through a fair, transparent and clear partnership that will strengthen the position of the operator on the market.”

Orange Sierra Leone has unveiled  earlier this month a modernization and expansion plan to improve the reliability, coverage and quality of its network as well as voice and data services. Since the acquisition, US $ 33 million has been invested for this purpose and in mid-October the majority of projects have already been completed with 30 new radio sites and more than half of the total mobile network.
